Indy Eleven Adds Young Attacking Talent in Corby Moore and Ben Spencer

Eleven Roster Climbs to 16 with Addition of Versatile, Creative Duo

INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, March 11, 2014) – Indy Eleven Professional Soccer announced the addition of two up-and-coming young players in midfielder Corby Moore and forward Ben Spencer during the club’s Corporate Partner announcement this evening at Flat 12 Bierwerks. The duo brings Indy Eleven’s roster up to 16 players with the Inaugural Game on April 12 just over a month away.

“In Corby Moore and Ben Spencer we’ve secured two players that, while young, have the talent and experience to produce right away,” said Indy Eleven President/General Manager Peter Wilt.

Corby Moore – Midfielder

Corby Moore joins Indy Eleven on a two-year deal from Southampton F.C. after having developed in the English Premier League side’s prestigious academy system since the age of eight. Moore, an attacking midfielder by trade, made eight appearances (four starts) for Southampton’s Under-21 Development side during its current 2013/14 campaign before coming stateside.

“The opportunity to move to America as well as moving to a club like Indy Eleven is a great and exciting opportunity for my career,” said Moore. “I believe the club has an extremely positive future and everyone involved has been very welcoming. Now I can't wait for the season to start and help the team be successful throughout my time here.”

After graduating from Saints Academy, the 20-year-old midfielder spent a majority of his time with Southampton’s Developmental Squad, but has also made a few forays into first team action.  He was named in the Saints’ first team squad when Southampton played Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup during the 2011/2012 season.

“We first identified Corby in December at Southampton during a scouting trip to England and from there he joined us in Arizona,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach/Director of Soccer Operations Juergen Sommer. “With Corby we are getting a player who is technically very sound, tactically very sharp and has wonderful vision that will be a huge lift to our attack. He’s got a bright future with us and we’re very excited to have him.”

Ben Spencer – Forward

A native of New Mexico, Ben Spencer joins Indy Eleven on a one-year loan from Norwegian Tippeligaen (first division) club Molde after spending time in the youth academy systems of a pair of Major League Soccer sides. Spencer was a member of the Real Salt Lake-Arizona Under-18 Academy squad in 2010/11 before joining Chivas USA’s U-18 Academy set-up in 2011/12.

The 18-year-old attacker was set to play his collegiate soccer for UC Santa Barbara in the fall of 2013, but instead opted to join Molde FK in April 2013.  He made his professional debut in a 4-0 win over Valerenga on September 1, 2013.

“I am excited for the opportunity to join Indy Eleven. I think it is the start of something really special,” said Spencer. “I look forward to being a part of this team and the growth of soccer in Indianapolis."

The imposing 6-foot 5-inch attacker was well known to the Indy Eleven technical staff after making multiple appearances in the United States Under-20 Men’s National Team camp under the watchful eye of Indy Eleven and U.S. U-20 Assistant Coach Tim Regan. Spencer will add versatility to the Indy Eleven frontline corps during its upcoming inaugural campaign.

“We were fortunate to catch Ben when we did. After a good 10 days of training with us in Orlando we feel really good about bringing him on board,” said Sommer. “He’s a very big, athletic striker, yet he’s still very mobile and has great feet. Ben brings us a different type of attacking option and he’s going to be a great addition to the team.”
