Four first half goals from the hosts put “Indiana’s Team” to bed at WakeMed Soccer Park

INDIANAPOLIS (October 1, 2017) – Indy Eleven suffers a 5-0 loss at the feet of North Carolina FC with all four goals coming in the opening 45 minutes at Sahlen Stadium in North Carolina.

As Indy’s playoff push brought them to Cary to face NCFC, head coach Tim Hankinson opted to introduce Paulo Junior, Craig Henderson, and Tanner Thompson into the midfield with forward David Goldsmith taking the place of Eamon Zayed.

North Carolina FC got off to a fast start when forward Renan Gorne redirected a cross from fullback Kareem Moses to beat Indy goalkeeper Jon Busch to open the scoring just ten minutes in. Indy absorbed pressure from the hosts as chances fell their way up to the half-hour mark. However, near back-to-back goals from Nazmi Albadawi and Steven Miller in the 32nd and 34th put NCFC up three. At the end of the half, the home side was awarded a penalty which dragged us into stoppage time, and Gorne converted from the spot for his second of the night.

Two second-half subs got things started for “Indiana’s Team” as defender Colin Falvey and midfielder Brad Ring were replaced by defender Kwame Watson-Siriboe and defender Daniel Keller, who made his return to the field for the first time since August. “Buschy” would make two crucial saves as his side fought to pull one back late one. Despite their persistence, Indy would fail to get on the scoresheet and NCFC would add insult to injury with a fifth goal – a free kick from Dre Fortune – in the 90th minute.

Indy Eleven returns home to IUPUI’s Michael A. Carroll Stadium to host Puerto Rico FC on Wednesday, October 4 at 7:00 P.M. ET. Tickets for the game – and all remaining 3+ NASL matches at “The Mike” in 2017 – can be purchased for as little as $11 online at www.IndyEleven.com or by phone at 317-685-1100.
