Indy Eleven NPSL

2016 Roster & Coaches

Indy Eleven NPSL has finalized the 39-man roster that will compete during its busy 2016 summer calendar. The roster, in accordance with NPSL rules that dictate rosters must be fully amateur or professional, will fall into the amateur status category, including 33 players with collegiate eligibility remaining and five performers that are untied to professional clubs.

The squad is heavy with Indiana roots, as 26 players suited up for nine schools located across the Hoosier State last fall. That list includes six current and recent performers from national powerhouse Indiana University and another 10 players from Indy-area institutions Butler University (3), Marian University (2), the University of Indianapolis (3) and IUPUI (2). In addition, Holy Cross College of South Bend (2), the University of Southern Indiana (1) and Wabash College (1) are also represented on the squad.

Ten players are returning from the then-Indiana Fire Juniors side that captured the 2015 NPSL Midwest Division title last summer, including 2015 Second Team All-NPSL forward Nago Mbengue, goalkeeper Cody Schweitzer and midfielder Jared Bleah.

2016 Indy Eleven NPSL Coaching Staff

Head Coach: John Simmonds

In just two seasons, Indy Eleven NPSL founding head coach John Simmonds has established the club as one of the burgeoning powers in the National Premier Soccer League. After going 7-4-3 during the team's first season (as Indiana Fire Juniors) in 2014, Simmonds led the squad to a 10-3-3 record and their first Midwest Region championship in 2015 (as Indiana Fire NPSL), earning the club a spot in the NPSL National Semifinals.

Simmonds, who has been a staple on the club soccer circuit in Indiana for more than 20 years, remains the man in charge on the sideline as the club transitions under the Indy Eleven umbrella for the 2016 season. The Purdue University graduate currently serves as the Director of Coaching & Travel for the Indiana Fire Juniors club program - Indiana's largest youth soccer club - and as head coach of three of its squads, the 98 Boys Red and White and 03 Girls White teams. Previous stints has seen Simmonds serve as Boys Director of Coaching for both the Westfield Select Soccer Association and Carmel United programs in addition to the Director of Coaching for Indy Inferno, helping those squads to a combined 10 State Championships through the years.

Assistant Coach: Peter Baah

Assistant coach Peter Baah brings vast credentials to the Indy Eleven NPSL program both from his playing days and various coaching stints across the last 25 years. Baah represented Blackburn Rovers, Fulham FC and Northwich Victoria in his native England in the early-to-mid-90s before establishing his new Hoosier State roots during a six-year stint with the Indiana Blast from 1998-2004, the last two seasons of which he also served as the team's head coach. Following a final season on the field with the Cincinnati Kings in 2005 and a year as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Thunder in 2006, Baah returned to the Indianapollis area, where he has previously served as head coach with Carmel United and Hamilton Southeastern High School and does so currently with the Park Tudor High School Boys and Indiana Fire Juniors 02 and 01 Boys Red teams.

Assistant Coach: Andy Swift

Assistant coach Andy Swift is plenty familiar with the collegiate game after spending more than a decade on the sideline. Since graduating from the University of Maine-Machias in 2005, the native of Birmingham, England, has served as an assistant coach with Clarion (PA) University, the University of Akron, Jacksonville State and, currently, Marian University and as a member of the Indiana Olympic Development Program coaching staff. In addition to his Indy Eleven NPSL duties, Swift is the Boy’s Travel and Girl’s ECNL GK coach with Indiana Fire, and recently assumed the role of Director of Camps with Indy Eleven.

Director of Goalkeeping: Jon Busch

In addition to his anticipated service on the field for Indy Eleven's NASL sid throughout the 2016 season, veteran netminder Jon Busch will also serve as the club’s Director of Goalkeeping, with duties to include serving as a guest coach with the Indy Eleven NPSL squad. Prior to joining Indy Eleven in January 2016, the Queens, New York, native made more than 450 professional starts, mostly coming in Major League Soccer during stints with the Columbus Crew, San Jose Earthquakes and Chicago Fire SC.
