Before Indy Eleven: University of Wisconsin product Mitch Guitar joined Indy Eleven for the stretch drive of its 2020 season, signing his first professional contract in conjunction with the USL Championship’s roster freeze deadline in mid-September. The versatile midfielder tallied two goals and five assists over 58 games (43 starts) in Madison across three seasons from 2016-18. Guitar was a critical cog in the Badger lineup, starting in every game of his sophomore (22) and junior (17) seasons, and earned 2018 All-Big Ten Second Team honors for his stellar performances in conference play.
Guitar attended Troy High School in Michigan and made his one season with their varsity team count, as he finished the year being named an all-league, all-district, all-region and all-state performer under head coach Brian Zawislak as a freshman. Guitar competed for Vardar Soccer Club for seven years under coaches Curtis Ward, Morris Lupenec, Mike Lupenec and Demir Muftari, moving to the USSDA outfit full-time starting with his sophomore year of high school. From his center midfield spot, Guitar helped his Vardar teams qualify for the USSF Academy playoffs every year and was a key contributor to their four consecutive Michigan State Cup titles from 2010-13. Guitar was chosen as a "Best 11" performer at the 2013 U.S. Soccer National Championship, and also participated in the 2012 Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals in China
