Three keys to our 0-0 draw against Riverhounds SC

After every game in 2018, IndyEleven.com’s Drew Kamaski will give his three takeaways from the performance of the “Boys in Blue.” This week's edition comes after "Indiana's Team" hold their undefeated streak on the road in a scoreless bout against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

Remaining Undefeated on the Road

Indy Eleven’s unbeaten streak on the road continues after a nil-nil draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on May 11. The “Boys in Blue” and Pittsburgh fashioned several chances throughout the 90 minutes, with seven and 14 shots directed at goal, respectively, between the two sides, but neither team found the back of the net. The Eleven backline’s stout defense has been an integral part of the road success through the first eight games of the season.

“Indiana’s Team” has registered a pair of wins and draws on the road, claiming eight out of a possible 12 points. Indy Eleven head coach Martin Rennie’s backline has performed exceptionally well on road fixtures. The “Boys in Blue” are yet to concede when playing away from Indianapolis. The back four will need to continue the string of stellar performances, as Indy Eleven go head to head with Mississippi Brilla FC on the road in the team’s first 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup fixture on Wednesday, May 16.

Ring Ties All-Time Appearances Record with Defensive Performance

Indy Eleven midfielder Brad Ring drew level with former Indy Eleven midfielder Don Smart on the “Boys in Blue’s” all-time appearances list with 101. If the “Legend” makes an appearance on May 19 against Bethlehem Steel FC, Ring will claim the top spot in all-time club appearances. Ring has been with the team since 2014 and is the last remaining member of its inaugural squad.

The midfielder, who has played a more defensive role under Indy Eleven head coach Martin Rennie, performed well in his record-tying cap. Ring finished the game with three tackles and an interception. The Indiana University alum has excelled in the defensive role he’s taken on, winning over half of his tackles in the defensive end. Ring’s ability to read the game and close opposition passing lanes has contributed to the midfielder’s 12 clearances and nine interceptions on the season.

We’re Glad “Ouimette”

Karl Ouimette has arguably been Indy Eleven’s most influential offseason signing during the 2018 USL campaign. The Canadian defender has started seven of the team’s eight games. His absence came in Week Five against Nashville SC due to suspension. Since the start of the season, Ouimette has played all but one minute of action out of a possible 630.

“New in Blue” Ouimette added another stellar performance to his stat sheet in the match against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. The center back tallied 11 clearances, keeping Riverhounds SC’s leading goal scorer, Neco Brett, from adding to the score sheet. Additionally, he racked up two tackles and denied Pittsburgh’s passing lanes with four interceptions.

His play against Pittsburgh only adds to his impressive defensive performances through the first eight games of the season. Ouimette, who has frustrated opposing offenses all season long, leads the team in interceptions. In addition, he’s won just under three-fourths of his tackles, another statistic he leads the team in. Expect Ouimette’s name to be a mainstay on Coach Rennie’s team sheet.

Catch the "Boys in Blue" in action in Lucas Oil Stadium this Saturday, May 19 at 8:00 p.m against Bethlehem Steel FC. Fans can get tickets starting at just $15 at IndyElevenTickets.com.
