Open Cup First Round Recap
(Westfield, Ind.) – Indy Eleven opened Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play with a victory for the third year in a row, defeating Des Moines Menace, 3-0, on March 17 in First Round action indoors at the Community Health Network Events Center on the Droplight Grand Park Sports Campus.
Forward Loïc Mesanvi gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute with his first Boys in Blue goal. Defender Alejandro Mitrano started the sequence with a clearance from just outside the six on a long ball that the speedy Mesanvi ran down outside the area and finished from distance.
Indy Eleven increased its lead in the 60th minute when Mesanvi played a ball to the left side to Mitrano at the edge of the box. Mitrano took two dribbles and played a brilliant cross to the far post to record his first assist with the club, where 6’5 midfielder Noble Okello headed it in for his first Boys in Blue goal.
In the 75th minute, former Western Michigan forwards Dylan Sing and Charlie Sharp combined for their first Indy Eleven goal. Midfielder Allen Gavilanes headed an attempted clearance toward the goal with Sing going up strong to force a punch by Des Moines keeper Jamie Barry. Sharp chested the ball down at the edge of the six and finished with his left to make it 3-0.
Boys in Blue goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook recorded his second clean sheet in three U.S. Open Cup starts by making four saves. In 329 minutes of Open Cup action for Indy Eleven, Charles-Cook has given up just one goal for a 0.27 goals against average.

Second-Half Goals Earn Draw at Hartford
(Hartford, Conn.) – Indy Eleven came back from a halftime deficit with two second-half goals to earn a 2-2 draw at USL Championship Eastern Conference opponent Hartford Athletic on Saturday. Coming into the game, Hartford had only allowed one goal in its first three matches.
The Boys in Blue started the second half quickly in the 48th minute, with forward Bruno Rendon making a long run down the right sideline into the area, where he played it forward to midfielder Cam Lindley, who played a perfect cross to the far post, with midfielder Noble Okello finishing it with his left foot to even the match at 1-1. It is the 31st career assist for Lindley in USL-C regular-season play, good for a tie for 22nd on the league’s all-time list.
Indy Eleven took the lead in the 72nd minute, with goalkeeper Eric Dick starting the sequence with a goal kick to midfield, where Okello was fouled. Lindley hurried to play a quick restart to midfielder Josh O’Brien, who played an angled ball to Mikah Thomas on the left side. The 20-year-old Thomas, who entered two minutes earlier, played three quick touches and curled a beautiful left-footed ball to the far post, where Rendon finished for his team-best second goal this season in the last two games.
The last Boys in Blue player to score a goal in back-to-back USL-C matches was captain Aodhan Quinn in September. In his league debut, it was the first USL Championship assist for Thomas, who played collegiately at nearby UConn.
Defender Anthony Herbert made a brilliant sliding block to clear an Augi Williams shot off the line in the 87th minute, but Hartford got the equalizer on an own goal off the ensuing free kick.
The Boys in Blue had an early chance in the sixth minute when defender Hayden White made a long throw-in to defender Paco Craig, who headed it inside the area to Herbert, but his shot was saved. Hartford countered immediately, but Dick saved Sadat Anaku’s shot from close range.
Boys in Blue forward Loïc Mesanvi made his first USL Championship start, generating an opportunity from outside the box that was saved. The Indy Eleven attack generated eight shots in the first half, with Mesanvi recording a team-high three.

Coach Sean McAuley
Head coach Sean McAuley earned the USLC “Coach of the Month” in May 2024 and he was nominated for USLC Midseason “Coach of the Year” after leading his team to a 12-match unbeaten streak in a two-month span from April 17-June 15.
The Sheffield, England, native led Indy Eleven to the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals with four straight victories, including a 2-1 triumph at MLS-side Atlanta United on July 9.
In 2025, Indy Eleven continued its run of Cup success under McAuley with a 4-0-3 record in cup play. The Boys in Blue won their U.S. Open Cup Third Round match vs. Miami FC on Hayden’s White’s stoppage-time goal from Cam Lindley. In the Round of 32, Indy Eleven played MLS Supporters Shield winner Philadelphia Union to a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes, before falling in penalty kicks.
In the franchise’s first appearance in the USL Cup, the Boys in Blue won their group with an undefeated record that included a victory in PK’s (7-6) vs. Birmingham Legion FC and a 2-1 triumph over eventual USL-C finalist FC Tulsa.
McAuley is in his third season in Indy after previously serving as interim head coach/assistant at MLS-side Minnesota United FC. McAuley helped Minnesota to playoff appearances in his first three seasons, including a trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2020.
In 2015, he hoisted the MLS Cup with the Portland Timbers.
McAuley began his playing career with Manchester United and played for Portland Timbers and the Scottish U-21 National Team.
