Meet the people behind Indiana’s Team in the women’s game for the 2023 season
Paul Dolinsky | Head Coach
Indy Eleven didn’t have to look far to find the first head coach for its new Women’s Senior Team, as Indiana’s Team named Carmel native Paul Dolinsky as the sideline boss for its new USL W League expansion franchise on December 14, 2021.
Dolinsky helmed the squad during a successful inaugural 2022 season that saw the Eleven capture the Great Lakes Division title and finish the regular season as one of only three undefeated teams (10W-0L-2D) across the then 45-team league. The Girls in Blue dominated its competition via a +24 goal differential (31 GF/7 GA) during the regular season and earned one of eight playoff positions during the W League’s inaugural campaign.
In 2023, Indy was crowned 2023 USL W League Champions in front of a record-setting home crowd at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. It was the club’s first championship in its two-season history, which has seen playoff appearances in back-to-back years. Indy Eleven was also named the USL W League Organization of the Year.
The Girls in Blue saw no shortage of accolades for individual players, as the club led all organizations with four selections on the 2023 Teams of the Year. Sam Dewey, who was also named the W League’s Divisional Player of the Year in the Valley Division, was honored on the league’s first team, while Nona Reason, Grace Bahr and Alia Martin picked up second-team accolades. Martin was also selected as the USL W League Final MVP.
The season finished with a 12-1-1, with Indy only allowing three regular season goals, while scoring 40. The 16 goals scored in the June 30 match against St. Charles FC were a club record for Indy Eleven and the total and margin of victory were the most in league history. In 14 matches, Indy scored three-plus goals seven times and shut out opponents on 10 occasions, including twice in playoff action.
Dolinsky has been a youth and developmental league coach for nearly two decades, the USSF “A” licensed coach most recently serving as the head coach of the WPSL’s Lady Victory FC during its own inaugural 2021 season and with Indiana Fire Juniors’ entry in ECNL (Elite Clubs National League) play. While with Lady Victory FC, Dolinsky earned the 2021 WPSL Midwestern Conference’s Coach of the Year honor after guiding the squad to a 10W-1L-0D record and a conference title. Prior to returning to Central Indiana in recent years, Dolinsky served as a coach for west coast youth soccer powerhouse San Diego Surf Soccer Club, where he twice led girls teams to US Youth Soccer national championships in their age groups.
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Dolinsky was one of the most talented soccer prospects to come out of the Hoosier State, the two-time Parade All-American midfielder out of Carmel High School earning regular U.S. Youth National Team callups during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, including a stint as captain of the U.S. Under-18 MNT. At 16, Dolinsky departed Indiana for The Netherlands, where he spent five seasons in the youth development systems at Feyenoord Rotterdam and SC Heerenveen before turning professional with the latter. After five years in Holland, Dolinsky returned stateside and played four more seasons in various professional leagues before turning his focus towards the sidelines.
Maddy Williams | Assistant Coach
After serving as a veteran voice and leader during Indy Eleven’s first season in 2022, forward Maddy Williams will bring some additional structure to that role as a player/assistant coach during her second campaign with the Girls in Blue in 2023.
Willams saw action in nine matches, making seven starts, as part of Indy’s 2023 USL W League Championship squad. She tied for the team lead with nine goals and added an assist. The team finished 12-1-1 and won its second straight divisional title.
The launch of the W League allowed Williams a successful return to the sport with Indiana’s Team in 2022. The ex-Purdue standout was one of three players to appear in all 13 matches and provided 10 goals (just one behind team leader Katie Soderstrom) and an assist in 885 minutes of action. Williams made club history on June 10, 2022, when her three-goal outburst during the middle of the first half against Flint City AFC earned her the first hat trick in the Eleven’s burgeoning W League history.
The Toledo area native brings unmatched experience to the squad, having played overseas in recent years with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven (2018-19) and Spanish club Real Zaragoza (2019-20) following a historic career at Purdue University. With the latter, Williams led the Spanish second division with 13 goals and had Zaragoza primed for promotion until suffering a season-ending injury in February, just prior to COVID shutting down the league.
Williams left West Lafayette as Purdue’s all-time leader in both goals (38) and assists (26) after a five-year career from 2013-17, helping the program to heights unseen in years. She got a fast start as a freshman in 2013, setting the Boilermakers’ freshman record with 26 points, courtesy of a record-tying 10 goals and six assists. She saved the best for last during her 2017 redshirt senior season, when she collected a program-record 14 goals to go along with eight assists, helping her to the Big Ten Forward of the Year award along with Second Team All-American (United Soccer Coaches) and Third Team All-American (Top Drawer Soccer) accolades.
