Albuquerque, N.M. – For the second time in a week, Indy Eleven rallied in the second half to earn a draw, but this time the Boys in Blue came back from a 2-0 deficit with two goals after halftime for a 2-2 tie at USL Championship Western Conference leader New Mexico United.
Newcomer Malik Henry-Scott started the comeback in his first Indy Eleven start with his first Boys in Blue goal. In the 50th minute, the 24-year-old stole a back pass inside the 18 and deftly dribbled around goalkeeper Kris Shakes to create space to chip it in off the inside of the far post to cut the deficit in half.
It is Henry-Scott’s third goal this season, his second in USL-C play, and his first in three appearances for the Boys in Blue since being loaned from Lexington SC. The Plano, Texas, native recorded four shots in the match and a team-high three shots on target.
Just nine minutes later Indy Eleven equalized after a methodical buildup. Forward Loïc Mesanvi made a diagonal run from the center line to execute a give-and-go with Jack Blake to set up defender Joe Hafferty for a blast from inside the 18 right side. Shakes made the save, but the rebound caromed out to Blake, who patiently waited for the ball to bounce and finished with his left foot to tie it at 2-2.
It is Blake’s fourth goal this season, his franchise-best 30th goal for the Boys in Blue, and his 46th career USL-C tally. He had a team-high six shots in the match, adding three chances created.
Goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook made three saves in his first league action this season.
Indy Eleven is 2-1-3 in its last six contests after earning a road result for the second time in its past three outings.
The next game for the Boys in Blue is “Small Business Night” on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m. vs. Brooklyn FC at Carroll Stadium presented by the Indy Black Chamber of Commerce. Gates open early at 5:30 pm for Happy Hour, with $5 drafts and $3 hot dogs and popcorn all game.
