Quinn Converts on a Pair of PKs for Indy
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (Friday, June 2, 2023) Heading to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, for a one-game road trip, Indy Eleven played at Eastern Conference leader Charleston Battery for the first and only time this season. The Eleven scored right away and never looked back, defeating the Battery 4-0 Friday night.
With the win, Indy improved to 4-5-3 on the season, while Charleston fell to 7-3-3.
Leland Archer was given a red card just 19 seconds into the match after pulling down Indy Eleven captain Sebastian Guenzatti in the penalty box. Aodhan Quinn would take the ensuing penalty kick and deliver it into the left side of the net to give the Eleven the very early lead. Quinn’s tally is the fastest goal in the USL Championship this season, occurring just 1:28 into the match.
Indy would control the rest of the first half, winning possession (62%-38%) and taking the 4-2 advantage in shots on target.
The Battery came out with a sense of urgency to the start of the second half, outshooting the Eleven 3-0 in the first 17 minutes of the half.
Indy Eleven would win its second penalty of the game in the 70th minute when Harrison Robledo was fouled by Chris Allan in the box. Quinn would again take the following penalty kick and this time beat Charleston keeper Trey Muse to the right side of the net, giving the Boys in Blue a two-goal lead. This was the first time that Indy Eleven scored on two penalty kicks in the same game since their May 29, 2021 match at Louisville City.
Indy Eleven would again extend their lead in the 75th minute when Roberto Molina took a pass from Douglas Martinez and powered a left-footed shot into the back of the net to give him his first goal as a member of the club.
The Boys in Blue would add their fourth goal of the night in the 80th minute when a header from Robby Crawford bounced into his own net.
Next up, the Boys in Blue head back home to host Hartford Athletic for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday, June 10.
