Lindley strike leads Indy to three points on the road
HARTFORD, Conn. (Saturday, June 24) Heading to Hartford, Connecticut to finish up a two-game road swing, Indy Eleven faced Hartford Athletic for the second and final meeting between the two teams. A Cam Lindley rocket in the 74th minute would be the difference maker as Indy Eleven earned three points on the road, defeating Hartford 2-0.
Similar to their last meeting against Hartford, Indy Eleven struggled to generate offensive pressure in the first half, registering just one shot and none on frame in the first half, compared to Hartford Athletic’s eight. The Boys in Blue also lost the possession battle in the first 45 minutes (54%-46%).
Hartford Athletic had a golden opportunity early in the second half, when an Andrew Lewis shot inside the box was saved by a diving Yannik Oettl.
By the time the 70th minute reached, Indy Eleven had still not registered a shot on goal. That all changed, however, in the 74th minute when Younes Boudadi passed to ball back to a charging Lindley, who fired a shot from well outside the box that soared into the top left corner, giving the Boys in Blue 1-0 lead with his first tally of the season.
In the fifth minute of an eight-minute stoppage time, Douglas Martinez took a pass from Roberto Molina and delivered a shot that bounced off of Richard Sanchez’s gloves and into the back of the net for his first goal of the season, giving Indy Eleven a 2-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
Next up, the Boys in Blue head back home to host San Diego Loyal SC for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday, July 1.
