Indy Eleven defender to represent country in CONCACAF Nations League
INDIANAPOLIS (October 5, 2023) – Indy Eleven defender Mechack Jerome has been called up by the Haitian Football Federation as part of its 25-man preliminary roster for the next set of CONCACAF Nations League matches. He will be available for selection Saturday against FC Tulsa but will begin his international assignment prior to Indy’s final regular season match against San Antonio on Oct. 14.
Jerome has played 23 matches for the Boys in Blue in 2023, making 16 starts. A mainstay on the backline, he has helped Indy to 11 clean sheets, which ties for fourth in the USL Championship, and only 34 goals conceded, which ranks tied for third.
Haiti is currently 0-0-2 in 2023-24 Nations League matches, earning draws against Cuba and Jamaica. The next matches are slated for Oct. 12 at Suriname and Oct. 15 at home against Jamaica.
Jerome was first called up to represent Haiti in 2008 when he was 17, and fifteen years later he is one of the nation’s leaders in appearances. In 2008, Jerome competed for Haiti at the Caribbean Championship and was part of squads that advanced out of group stages at the 2015 and 2019 Gold Cups. He saw action in FIFA World Cup qualifiers for the 2010, 2018 and 2022 tournaments and has scored four international goals, including one in a 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Grenada.
The Boys in Blue travel to FC Tulsa Saturday for an 8:30 p.m. ET match on ESPN+ and have already clinched a spot in the USL Championship playoffs for the third time since joining the league in 2018 and first time since 2019.
