LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Tuesday, May 14, 2024) – Indy Eleven wasted no time getting its title defense started as a three-goal outing led the Girls in Blue to a 3-1 victory over Racing Louisville FC in the 2024 USL W League season opener.
Indy improves to 1-0-0 on the season, while Louisville falls to 0-1-0.
In just the seventh minute of action, Indy newcomer Amelia White tracked down the Louisville keeper after an errant touch off a back pass to secure the ball and touch it in for the early lead.
Indy had the majority of chances in the first frame and took the 1-0 lead and momentum into the locker room.
That momentum got things started quickly in the second half as another fresh face to the roster in Zoe Cuneio doubled the lead for the visitors in the 47th-minute of action. Just 12 minutes later newcomer and halftime substitution Norah Jacomen joined the scoring, dispossessing the Louisville defense and taking it in for the tally.
Louisville was able to grab one back in the 89th minute off a corner.
Ashton Blair and Maryn Weiger split time in the net, with Blair logging over 70 scoreless minutes.
The Girls in Blue next host their home opener Monday, May 20 against Kings Hammer FC at the Grand Park Events Center. Kick is slated for 7 p.m. ET with action streaming on Sports Engine Play.
