Westfield, Ind. – In the penultimate match of the year, Indy Eleven posed an attacking threat all night and set a new team season record for goals scored in a 7-1 win over Dayton Dutch Lions FC on Saturday. The victory was the fourth straight for the Girls in Blue in the USL W League Valley Division, which they currently lead with 16 points with one game left in the regular season.
The match marked the third in the last four that the Girls in Blue have scored at least six goals. Five different Indy Eleven players scored, tied for the most unique goalscorers that Indy Eleven has had in a game all season.
In the 16th minute, forward Reese Sochacki opened the scoring, knocking a right-footed shot from near the penalty spot into the bottom-right corner of the goal for her sixth of the season. Nicky Jodoin created the goal, fending off two Dayton defenders near the right corner flag before playing in a well-placed cross.
The Girls in Blue doubled their lead in the 38th minute after several attacks down the right wing. Chloe Brecht drove into the right side of the box toward the endline before cutting back a ground pass to Brooklyn Lee, who calmly slotted home a one-touch goal.
After the visitors pulled a goal back late in the first half, Talyn Guthrie scored for the second straight game shortly after the break. She reestablished Indy Eleven’s two goal advantage with a volley goal off her midsection in the 54th minute.
The Girls in Blue did not take their feet off the gas pedal. A Chloe Brecht shot deflected off a Dayton defender and in for Indy Eleven’s fourth, then defender Mac Kruer headed in off a corner for the fifth, with both goals coming in a five-minute span.
In the last 10 minutes, Ellie Hodsden won a penalty that was converted by Emma Johnson, who returned to the lineup as a sub after playing two matches for the USA U20 team in Spain. Shortly after, Guthrie capitalized on a mistake at the back to record her first brace for the Girls in Blue.
Indy Eleven has scored 22 goals in their last four matches, while allowing just one goal.
The Girls in Blue will play their final regular season finale on Wednesday, June 24 at 7:00 pm, when they host Toledo Villa FC indoors at the Community Health Network Events Center on the Droplight Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield. Tickets are under $12 and they can be purchased online or after doors open at 6:00 pm.
