Westfield, Ind. – Indy Eleven capped its regular season with a fifth straight victory in the USL W League Valley Division, defeating Toledo Villa FC 3-1 in its finale.
The Girls in Blue dominated from start to finish, only allowing three shots. They have outscored their opponents 25-2 during their winning streak.
Jenna Chatterton was honored prior to kickoff for becoming the Indy Eleven W League’s all-time appearances leader in her five seasons with the team. The defender came on as a substitute in the second half, making her record-extending 42nd appearance.
Mac Kruer opened the scoring in the 14th minute for the Girls in Blue, heading in off an in-swinging corner kick by Reese Sochacki for her second goal of the season. The assist was also Sochacki’s second of the year.
Shortly after, Sochacki created another goal with a corner kick. In the 35th minute, her lofted pass towards the front post created confusion, and found the back of the net on a header by a Toledo defender.
After the visitors pulled a goal back before halftime, Indy Eleven wasted no time restoring their two-goal lead after the break. Just over a minute into the second half, Emma Johnson regained possession about 25 yards out and went on a solo run into the box before blasting a low right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. The goal was her third of the year.
The Girls in Blue continued to threaten on the attack for the rest of the game but were met with outstanding goalkeeping by Avery Sluss, who finished with ten saves. However, reliable defending by the hosts made sure that the result was never in doubt.
Indy Eleven finished with 24 shots, 13 on target, and seven corner kicks. Toledo had just one shot on target and no corners.
The win keeps the Girls in Blue in first place in the Valley Division, where they lead Racing Louisville FC by two points. But Louisville still has one game in hand on Indy Eleven, as they play their final match of the season against Toledo on Saturday. To clinch their fourth division title in five years in the W League, the Girls in Blue will need Louisville to draw or lose their last game.
The match was sponsored by The Elements Group at Morgan Stanley, a leading financial services firm.
