LAST TIME VS. NC
Cary, NC – Indy Eleven’s three-match unbeaten streak was snapped by a 2-0 decision at Eastern Conference foe North Carolina FC. The North Carolina victory was its first over the Boys in Blue since 2017, ending a 4-0-2 series run in the past six meetings for Indy.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on a goal by Rafa Mentzingen off an assist from Collin Martin.
Indy midfielder Jack Blake had two good chances in a four-minute span with a header off a long cross from Maalique Foster in the 22nd minute and a long blast from outside the box in the 26th set up by a feed from Aedan Stanley. Foster’s rebound off the second opportunity just missed wide left.
Boys in Blue goalie Hunter Sulte kept his team within one with a left arm save on a breakaway by Oalex Anderson in the 53rd.
Romario Williams had two scoring opportunities in a three-minute span with a long strike from outside the box saved in the bottom left corner off a quick touch from Foster in the 59th, followed by a left-footed shot inside the area off a header in the 61st.
Indy had another chance to equalize in the 69th minute when Blake used a strong run to set up Foster on the right side.
After NC increased its lead to 2-0 in the 77th, forward Elliot Collier almost got one back in the 79th with a header over the crossbar.
In the 85th, defender Ben Ofeimu’s curling shot off a corner kick just missed wide right.

FOSTER EARNS USLC “TEAM OF THE WEEK” HONORS
Indy Eleven forward Maalique Foster has been named to the USL Championship “Team of the Week” for Week 4 of the regular season after he scored his 21st career USLC goal vs. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday at Carroll Stadium.
Defender Aedan Stanley played a beautiful cross from the left side across the area to Foster on the right side of the box and Foster buried it just inside the near post with his left foot to give his team a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. In the match, Foster tied for a team-best three chances created and he added four shots, six crosses attempted, and 14 passes completed in the final third.
On the season, Foster leads Indy Eleven in chances created (5), he is second in fouls won (5), and third in shots (3) while playing 249 minutes and starting all three matches. The Portmore, Jamaica, native is tied for 26th in the USLC in chances created.
This marks the second time that the 28-year-old Foster has earned “Team of the Week” recognition as a member of the Boys in Blue, as he received that status after scoring his first Indy Eleven goal vs. El Paso Locomotive in Week 28 last season.
This is the third straight week that Indy Eleven is represented on the “Team of the Week”, with Jack Blake and Pat Hogan earning selection in Week 2, and Bruno Rendon in Week 3.
AQ THREE IN FOUR
Midfielder and team captain Aodhan Quinn has scored three goals in his last four matches dating back to last season’s playoff game vs. Rhode Island FC.
The San Diego native scored his 56th career USLC goal in the final minute of stoppage time, earning a free kick and then converted it by splitting the wall and curling it inside the near post for his second goal of the season. That strike is a USLC “Goal of the Week” nominee for Week 4.
Quinn is tied for 22nd on the league all-time list in goals and he is tied for ninth in that category this season, while ranking second on the Boys in Blue in tackles won (5).

LAST TIME OUT
Indy Eleven scored first and last but came up short in a 3-2 setback to defending USLC champion Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in front of 10,202 fans on a rainy night at Carroll Stadium.
Former Switchbacks forward Maalique Foster put the Boys in Blue in front in the 19th minute with his 21st career goal in USL Championship play. Defender Aedan Stanley played a beautiful cross from the left side across the area to Foster on the right side of the box and Foster buried it just inside the near post with his left foot to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Colorado Springs substitute Marco Micaletto tied it up four minutes after entering in the 43rd minute as the teams were even at half, 1-1.
The Boys in Blue came out strong in the second half with midfielder Oliver Brynéus, who made his first start, leading forward Edward Kizza into the area in the 49th minute, but Kizza’s quick strike caromed off the near post.
Micaletto then gave his team the lead with his second goal in the 62nd. Justin Dhillon added an insurance goal two minutes later for the defending champions to make it 3-1.
The Boys in Blue kept fighting, with defender Ben Ofeimu getting a scoring opportunity on target in the 78th minute.
In the final minute of stoppage time, captain Aodhan Quinn earned a free kick and then converted it by splitting the wall and curling it inside the near post for his second goal of the season and the 56th of his USLC career to cut the margin to 3-2.
