Indy Eleven goalkeeper Emily Edwards (Purdue/Holly Springs, N.C.) is one of 13 current USL W League players called up to a first-of-its-kind U.S. Soccer Women’s College Talent ID Camp in Atlanta. The camp is taking place June 18-22 as part of the growing U.S. Youth National Team’s scouting strategy with the objective of increasing programming opportunities for college-specific players with high potential and therefore expanding the U.S. Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 Women’s National Team player pools. There are 28 different colleges represented on the camp roster of 42 players.
The camp also incorporates a women’s goalkeeper-specific segment with the aim of increasing the pool of goalkeepers who are exposed to a National Team experience. Nearly half of the goalkeepers in the camp currently play in the USL W League. The focus is on individual development in training sessions, led and supported by US Women’s National Team goalkeeper coach Stuart Searle and Youth National Team (YNT) goalkeeper coaches. The goalkeepers called up are a mix of players new to the YNT programs along with some who have extensive YNT experience.
Edwards has started seven games for the Girls in Blue this season, recording four clean sheets and 37 saves.
The Girls in Blue return home Tuesday, June 24 vs. Racing Louisville FC at 7 pm at Grand Park Events Center. Single-game tickets for all matches can be purchased here.
