
Westfield, Ind. – On the night when captain Grace Bahr announced her retirement as a player, Indy Eleven rallied with an impressive second half including a late flurry, but fell to Racing Louisville FC, 2-1, in a USL W League Tuesday night at the Grand Park Events Center indoors in Westfield.
Bahr, who sustained a season-ending knee injury on June 11, was honored before the game and presented with a framed #8 jersey. The former Xavier and Wisconsin collegiate player joined Indy Eleven as an Assistant Coach two months after the W League team was founded in 2021.
The Broadview Heights, Ohio, native played for the Girls in Blue all four seasons of the team’s existence, starting 38 of 40 games and logging more than 3,400 minutes. She earned USL Team of the Year Second Team honors in 2023 after scoring a career-high three goals and tying her best with two assists.
Bahr led the Girls in Blue to three consecutive Division Championships, the Central Conference title, and the USL W League Championship in front of a record crowd of more than 5,400 at The Mike in July of 2023.
The versatile Bahr also served as a coach in the Indy Eleven Academy the last three years, serving as a strong role model and voice for young players.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Girls in Blue came out strong after halftime, outshooting Racing Louisville 8-3 in the final 45 minutes. Forward Addie Chester ignited the attack by earning a free kick and then a subsequent corner kick where she delivered the ball to defender Mackenzie Kruer, who headed it wide in the 49th minute.
Defender Jenna Chatterton found some space in the 62nd minute to record a shot from outside the area. Midfielder Olivia Smith created a chance in the 65th with a free kick to midfielder Asa Yamazaki for a scoring opportunity. Forward Elise May made a nice turn and fire inside the area in the 69th minute that just missed.
Midfielder Olivia Joyce earned a chance in the 78th. Then, the Indy Eleven pressure culminated in the 85th when Smith played a ball to Yamazaki in the midfield and she played a long ball to Joyce, who finished it for her second goal of the season to bring her team to within 2-1.
In the 89th, Kruer delivered a long ball to forward Emersen Jennings who showed her speed to keep it inside the end line, drawing a foul that was just outside the area. On the ensuing free kick. Smith found May for a header that was saved.
Girls in Blue goalkeeper Emily Edwards, who just returned from the U.S. Soccer Women’s College Talent ID Camp in Atlanta, made four of her five saves in the first half to keep her team within striking distance.
Indy Eleven’s final match of the season is at home on Friday, June 27 vs. Dayton Dutch Lions FC at 7 pm at Grand Park Events Center. Tickets can be purchased here.
