Indianapolis – Indy Eleven forward Elvis Amoh scored his first goal for the Boys in Blue, but it wasn’t enough as the hosts fell to USLC Eastern Conference opponent Charleston Battery at Carroll Stadium.
Defender James Musa recorded his first Indy Eleven assist, setting up Amoh in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.
Amoh thought he scored in the 87th minute off a pass from captain Aodhan Quinn, but it was ruled offside.
After Charleston raced to a 2-0 lead in the first eight minutes, the Boys in Blue got the attack going in the 16th minute when Quinn played a long ball to forward Maalique Foster, who spun and centered it to forward Edward Kizza, but Charleston goalkeeper Luis Zamudio made the save.
Defender Pat Hogan kept the deficit from increasing in the 18th minute when he cleared a ball off the line.
In the 24th minute, midfielder James Murphy played a through ball into midfielder Jack Blake, who chipped it just wide.
After Charleston added to its lead early in the second half, the Boys in Blue produced two scoring chances in three minutes, with Bruno Rendon’s header from Aedan Stanley in the 55th and Foster’s shot from the left side outside the box in the 57th, off target.
Blake got another chance in the 64th off a short corner, and Quinn got a shot off a feed from forward Elliot Collier in the 70th. Defender Finn McRobb recorded his first shot for the Boys in Blue in the 85th minute on target. Murphy threatened in the 93rd minute, but his shot hit the crossbar.

Boys in Blue Blank Hartford
Hartford, Conn. – Indy Eleven recorded its fifth clean sheet of the season to earn a huge 2-0 road victory at USLC Eastern Conference opponent Hartford Athletic on Wednesday night.
Goalkeepers Reice Charles-Cook and Hunter Sulte combined for eight saves in the match to earn the shutout. Charles-Cook started his third consecutive match and made two stops in the first half on shots from Hartford forward Kyle Anderson, along with a sliding cover outside the six in the 28th minute. It was the 13th time this season that the Boys in Blue have not allowed a first-half goal, the second-most in the league.
Sulte came on in the second half for his first action since the USL Jägermeister Cup quarter-final on August 20. He was tested immediately, stopping forward Michee Ngalina in the 48th and again with a diving save to his left in the 51st.
In the 55th minute, Sulte made a reaction save on Samuel Careaga’s close-range effort, with the rebound attempt by Careaga just missing wide. Defender Ben Ofeimu came up big in the 60th minute with a block of Ngalina’s scoring chance.
Sulte’s total of six saves is his most in a match since July 18 at North Carolina FC (5). In his two-year Indy Eleven career, the 23-year-old Sulte has made 126 saves for the most in the team’s USL Championship era (2018- ). The 6’7 Sulte also tops the franchise USLC list in career shutouts with 13.5.
For the second straight game, the Boys in Blue scored first in the game’s first three minutes. Midfielder Jack Blake played a ball from the air down in the left side of the area and uncorked a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner of the net for his team-leading eighth goal this season and the 40th in his USL Championship regular-season career.
Blake’s goal is the sixth time this season that Indy Eleven has scored in the first 15 minutes, good for second in the league. The Boys in Blue have scored 19 first-half goals, ranking third in the USLC.
After withstanding Hartford’s offensive onslaught in the second half, captain Aodhan Quinn started the counterattack that produced a valuable insurance goal with a long ball clearance from inside his own area. Forward Romario Williams chased the ball down outside the Hartford area and drew goalkeeper Antony Siaha toward him to free up forward Maalique Foster. Foster waited patiently for a defender to go by him, then buried his third goal of the season to make it 2-0. It is Foster’s 22nd USLC career goal and it was Williams’ 12th career assist.
The victory puts the Boys in Blue back in a playoff position with eight games left in the regular season.

COACH SEAN McAULEY
Head coach Sean McAuley earned the USLC “Coach of the Month” last May and he was a nominee for USLC Midseason “Coach of the Year” after leading his team to a 12-match unbeaten streak in a two-month span from April 17 through June 15.
The Sheffield, England, native led Indy Eleven to the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals with four straight wins, including a 2-1 victory at MLS-side Atlanta United.
McAuley is in his second season in Indy after previously serving as interim head coach/assistant at MLS-side Minnesota United FC. McAuley helped Minnesota to playoff appearances in his first three seasons, including a trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2020.
In 2015, he hoisted the MLS Cup with the Portland Timbers. McAuley began his playing career with Manchester United and played for Portland Timbers and the Scottish U-21 National Team.
